Supplemental Outreach Activities
This section contains a brief description of activities from the FCC Menu of outreach initiatives undertaken during the reporting period, including station personnel involved in the activities.
In the preceding year, the Employment Unit has engaged in the following initiatives:
Established an internship program designed to assist members of the secondary education and college community to acquire skills needed for broadcast employment.

The KXRM / KXTU Employment Unit has committed to providing ongoing educational opportunities for college students who wish to gain practical experience in the field of television broadcasting. In order to give the intern a total experience of this exciting industry, we have designed our internship program to give the opportunity of covering several departments during the internship if desired. This internship allows us to assist the intern in meeting academic criteria at the student’s college or university, provide a means to investigate a potential career, acquire new skills, and enhance a resume or portfolio. The internship is available throughout the year. Students receive work experience and college credit in lieu of pay.
Media Operations Dept intern participated from 8/12 thru 12/12 for credit at Pikes Peak Community College of Colorado Springs. Station personnel involved: Amy Hunter, VP/Director of Media Operations.
News Dept interns participated this year from 8/11 thru 12/11, 1/12 thru 5/12, 6/12 thru 8/12 and 8/12-12/12 for credit at Pikes Peak Community College of Colorado Springs.

On March 7, 2012 from 11:00AM-3:00PM, the stations participated in a Career Fair at the Colorado State University at Pueblo, Colorado. We made available the job openings at the time in the all Departments as well as accepted applications and resumes.

On March 15, 2012, from 2PM-6PM, the stations participated in a Career Fair at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. We made available the job openings at the time in the all Departments as well as accepted applications and resumes.

On June 12, 2012 from 2PM-5PM, the stations participated in an All Colorado Alumni Career Fair at Denver Marriott Tech Center, Denver, Colorado. We made available the job openings at the time in the all Departments as well as accepted applications and resumes.

Established mentoring program for sales account executives to expand their job knowledge and skills.
|
The KXRM / KXTU Employment Unit has established a mentoring program that has expanded to experienced sales account executives as mentors of protégés providing management experience as well as benefiting the protégés with direct one on one training.
|
Provided training to sales account executives to help in expanding their job knowledge and skills in the station sales area.
|
The KXRM / KXTU Employment Unit participates in Richardson sales training and Jim Doyle sales training programs. All account executives from the stations attended in order to expand their job knowledge and skills. Newly hired account executives also attended several days of intensive skill sets training including provided at corporate offices of Barrington Broadcasting.

Conducted events allowing local educational institutions students to participate in segments in newscasts and tour station facilities to experience and expand knowledge relating to career opportunities in broadcasting.

Weekly Morning News KidCaster – A local student from grades 4-6 is chosen as KidCaster for a tour of the station, learn about the weather equipment, and then gives the weather live on Morning News.
Local classes of elementary students are invited to station for a tour and making of video of each student presenting the Pledge of Allegiance. These videos are then presented in Morning News broadcast.

During the reporting period, the KXRM / KXTU Employment Unit listed full-time openings in a job bank or newsletter of media trade groups whose membership includes substantial participation by women and minorities, such as National Association of Hispanic Journalism.
